Who We Are

The Wisconsin Laborers' District Council is an affiliation of five LIUNA local unions representing nearly 9,000 active and retired construction craft laborers in Wisconsin. We are a part of the Laborers' International Union of North America -- one of the largest labor unions in the world -- representing over 500,000 workers across the United States and Canada, fighting for better wages and benefits, safer jobsites, and greater opportunity.

What We Do

Skilled LIUNA members construct and maintain vital infrastructure, like roads, sewer, water, and other utility connections. The work we perform spurs economic development and job growth through all sectors of the economy. From the smallest town to our largest urban centers, our projects are no doubt as familiar to you as they are essential to the community in which you live.

Wisconsin Laborers take pride in our union and what we have been able to achieve. We are in the business of assisting members and members' families both on and off the job, by providing a network of services and support designed to make life safer, healthier, and financially more secure.

We are equally proud of the partnership we have forged with our employer partners. Working together we have developed innovative programs designed to increase their ability to compete and create even more job opportunities in the construction industry.

Wages and Benefits

Higher Wages

There are many benefits to being a LIUNA member. Perhaps the most visible and immediate is pay.

On average, a union Laborer in the state of Wisconsin can expect to earn between 30% and 50% more an hour than a non-union worker performing the same type of work. That figure does not include health and pension benefits.

Health Care

Another benefit for members is family health care coverage. The Wisconsin Laborers' Health Fund includes coverage for:

  • Hospitalization
  • Prescription Drug Program
  • Chiropractic
  • Home Health Care
  • Dental
  • Accident & Sickness Benefit
  • Vision
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment
  • Hearing Aid
  • Death Benefit

Retirement Security

Nearly 2,000 retirees and many more spouses count on the Wisconsin Laborers' Pension Fund (Locals 140, 268, 330, and 464) or the Building Trades United Pension Trust Fund (Local 113) to provide economic security long into retirement.  LIUNA pension plans are defined benefit plans. That means the benefit provided remains stable throughout your retirement.
